Tarring and Feathering - Civilized?

To me it is a little bit sad that the people of the colonies have allowed their own citizens to be tarred and feathered because they disagree with their views on the King's right to tax his citizens. I am all too familiar with disagreement, but I would never like to see others hurt in such a way whom I disagree with. I don't blame the majority of citizens of the colonies, I think they are simply misguided souls who are being led down this path of destruction by men like John Hancock and Samuel Adams. They are the real trouble makers in this situation.
